Yoga with Darcy FREE  

Calling all writers! Join us for an inaugural writers’ gathering at the Koller Memorial Library hosted by library director Callie, the first in monthly or bimonthly writers’ meetings. Our first session will determine group meeting schedule and activities. This session will also include: a writing prompt, discussion time, free-writing time, and the opportunity to share a brief writing sample verbally for group feedback. We welcome all writers, from beginners to experienced wordsmiths, writing in all genres and for all age groups. So whether you write fiction, poetry, nonfiction, screenplays, picture books, or anything else, this group is for you! One caveat: writing “with” artificial intelligence is not permitted. Those words on the page need to come from your blood, sweat and tears—in other words, from your mind and heart—or it’s not your art.

Bring a bag lunch for a one-hour presentation exploring the natural world. North Lakeland Discovery Center naturalist Licia will be presenting Animal Tracking and Sign. FREE. AT THE LIBRARY.

The Vilas County Imagination Library goes LIVE on February 7th! Starting 2/7, Vilas County families will be able to sign their children up to receive free books through the Imagination Library. This organization will be at the library on February 7th to get people signed up! See more about their organization on their facebook page.

THIS MONTH'S MEETING IS AT THE LIBRARY. A partnership between the Discovery Center and Koller Library, each month we will focus on a different nature-based book each month, with discussions led by either Discovery Center or library staff. Books will be available for checkout at the library in the weeks prior to the meeting.  The book we will discuss this month is What an Owl Knows by Jennifer Ackerman. In this book, the author joins scientists in the field and explores how researchers are using modern technology and tools to learn how owls communicate, hunt, court, mate, raise their young, and move about from season to season. Ackerman brings this research alive with her own personal field observations; the result is an awe-inspiring exploration of owls across the globe and through human history, and a spellbinding account of the world’s most enigmatic group of birds.
